West Grinstead village has been overtaken commercially by its thriving neighbour Partridge Green.
As a result West Grinstead has remained more rural over the years while Partridge Green has experienced a boom, with new houses and industry dominating the village.
St Georges church dates back to the 11th century whereas St Michael`s in Partridge Green is less than 100 years old.
One of West Grinstead parish`s main features is the Roman Catholic Church of Our Lady and St Francis and its associated school.
The priest`s house absorbed an earlier cottage giving access to a secret Roman Catholic Chapel used during times of religious persecution.
The parish includes Partridge Green village and the hamlet of Dial Post.
An area of 2730 hectares supports a population of 2685.
